I don’t give birthday wishes.
Rephrase: I rarely give birthday wishes.
And please…. don’t be mad at me for this.
As exchange, you don’t have to wish me on my birthday?
There’s one episode in The Big Bang Theory where they talk about this ~ birthday. One of the geek guy character, Leonard didn’t celebrate his birthday and the non-geek girl Penny was feeling sorry for him. Leonard felt fine, but Penny didn’t.
Me ~ I was raised in a family where birthday is not really such a big deal.
It’s rather sweet than a big deal.
When I was a kid, even until when I was teenager, I woke up in the morning, knowing I was one year older than yesterday and I will go and tell my mom and dad that it was my birthday. Usually my parents tend to forgot. And then I will request my mom to cook my favourite food, which is usually ayam masak pedas, or some years would be nasi daging.
And then the days just flow by like that.
I used to have some small celebration when my sister was studying in UIA back then. When she’s back home for the break, and it was my birthday; she will gather my friends and we eat something. But then around when I was Standard 4, she flew to Sarawak to teach until about the time I took my SPM. So we rarely celebrate.
Hence why, Mahadi, if you notice, I never invite any of our friends for birthday celebration back then.
So yeah. A birthday is supposed to be a pretty quiet day for me, just enjoying my time alone.
It is probably sounded sad in your head if you make birthday as a big thing.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind birthday celebration either. But I hate it when my head keep telling me to have a great day because it is my birthday.
Plus, it was pretty tragic for the last few years which I prefer not to make a bigger deal out of it to lower my expectation.
2006 – I ‘celebrated’ my birthday on the night bus to Kem BTN in Ulu Sepri.
2007 – I was finishing my dissertation which is due 2 days after that.
Well, 2008 was actually a blast though. Coz we had this party in rumah bebudak Brunei and my mom and dad were here as well.
2009 – Oh, that was the time when Mahadi came down for our little celebration in rumah Kak Zila. But then I got fever on that day. We got cake with candles, but instead of blowing, to avoid germs spreading out on the cake, I kinda just kipas-kipas with my hand.
2010 – Damn I cant remember. What did I do? [Terus carik balik dalam blog to find out what did I do] Oh, Ramadhan, and I was breakfasting at Abang Amir’s house. Cool.
See… I’m stressing myself to think that I want to be doing something cool on my birthday, which is not cool!
That’s my 4 a.m rambling.
Note: Don’t ask me when my birthday is.
Note 2: Don’t share it to people if you know it.
Note 3: Don’t get mad at me if I don’t give you birthday wishes.
Note 4: You are special to me… how could I forgot your birthday…. (tetiba)… although actually I put down on my Yahoo Mail calendar OR your birthday coincides with my other special one (oops). Wakaka.
